Vitex (Vitex agnus-castus) is a shrub used since Greek antiquity for its ability to improve the functioning of the female reproductive system, and in Turkish medicine as a digestive, antifungal and anti-anxiety aid.

Numerous modern studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of Vitex in premenstrual syndrome (dysmenorrhoea, irregular cycle, bloating, acne), pre-menopausal symptoms, menopause, infertility problems and other conditions that can affect the female intimate health.

In a medical study, 1.93% of women given Vitex reported a decrease in the premenstrual symptoms, including: menstrual pain, depression, anxiety, food cravings.

Vitex helps to lower the levels of the hormone prolactin, which helps to rebalance other hormones, including oestrogen and progesterone – thus reducing the PMS symptoms.

الاحتياطات

Do not use Vitex agnus-castus if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, suffer from endometriosis, uterine fibroids, or cancer of the breast, uterus or ovaries, or if you are undergoing an in vitro fertilization procedure. It may affect the therapy for Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders. Vitex decreases the effectiveness of contraceptives. The use of an additional method of contraception, such as a condom, is indicated.

1 capsule per day with a glass of water at mealtime.

For the premenstrual syndrome and frequent menstrual cycles, Vitex is recommended to be used continuously for four to six months. Women with amenorrhoea (lack of menstruation) can take Vitex for 12 to 18 months, unless pregnancy occurs during the treatment.
